Before the fall

This mandala was finished about an hour before my big fall. I was looking down the road when I tripped on a raised section of the sidewalk. Chin, shoulder, hand and knee took the impact. Of course, my right (dominate) hand had two fingers receive the most damage. Imagine a splint-now envision a cast covering three fingers and extending down to about three inches from the elbow. This will be on for one week and it should be a maximum of 6 weeks for full recovery. I am practicing drawing with my left hand. A challenge that could be a test for all.

EDM has helped to renew my interest in art and helped me to enjoy the journey. I signed up for a class with Jeannie Vodden who does superb paintings. The technique was to mix the colors on the the paper. I learned a lot and pushed myself to get some darks. You can see more of Jeannie's work at: www.jeannievodden.com.

Um, so where's the picture of the cast? :-) I hear that drawing with your non-dominant hand brings out the artistic child in oneself . . . This could be a whole new shift in your art! Don't mean to make light of your accident, however. Wishing you a speedy recovery. My heart goes out to you. -- Carol Leigh

Sorry you tripped and hurt yourself. What a challenge you have now to draw with your left hand. We never do these challenges just for fun but now if you want to draw you have no choice. I hope you'll be surprised at how well you learn to do so over a few weeks.

When I was in high school I broke my right hand. My art teacher wisely refused to cut me any slack. I learned all sorts of ways to create without dexterity. I could still use my hand in the cast but I painted with a palette knife, squeeze bottles, big brushes and some things too hard to explain. It was a very fun time because I had to get creative to get creative.
.
That being said, I hope you heal quickly and it's a lovely piece of artwork!

Very nice! It does indeed have a silken quality to it that is very soothing.

Sometimes we are forced to take a different path to where we are going and enjoy it all the more for the surprises along the way. Hope you'll be feeling lots better quickly and that you will enjoy some surprises along this detour:o)

Very sorry about your fall and I hope you have a speedy recovery! I agree with Carol Leigh, if you feel up to it, it would be a great time to work on drawings with your other hand! Wonderful colors in this! I'll have to try that.
